Cultural barriers and lifestyle choices can often lead to less than optimal medical care. Since barriers to health care can prevent members of lesbian/bisexual/transgender (LBT) communities from accessing the care they need, the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation has created an outreach program directed to this group of women. Rainbow Circle provides inclusive education, information and services to persons in the LGBT community to encourage and provide access to optimum breast health care.
Well-trained volunteers present breast health information and address concerns in a comfortable, sensitive and understanding environment. Using a “Train the Trainer” model, Rainbow Circle volunteers are recruited from within the LGBT community. These volunteers are trained as trainers of other women who then deliver breast health educational workshops specifically designed to address LGBT fears and worries, increase their knowledge and understanding, and encourage them to act on behalf of their own good health.
The Rainbow Circle program is led by an Advisory Task Force who, along with the Foundation, provides direction for the program.
Rainbow Circle symbolizes a circle of support and strength. With every connection, the circle grows. Every challenge faced together makes the circle stronger. Rainbow Circle can help you. We understand the unique challenges faced by lesbian and bisexual women and transgender persons. If you are a lesbian or bisexual woman or a transgender person in need of a mammogram, or if you would like to volunteer, please call the Foundation at 215-564-3700 for additional information. |
